How To Properly Winter a Native Bonsai Tree
Many people do not realize that most bonsai plants are outdoor plants. To properly grow and maintain bonsai trees, most of them do not have to be stored inside but outside all year round.
There are groups so-called indoor bonsai tree. This is from a warm climate and is usually non-traditional species such as coconut trees. Because they come from warmer climates they should be stored indoors in most locales.
However, if you keep the traditional native bonsai trees in the United States then it is likely that the trees need to be outside. Most people do not realize how important it is for these trees to winter outside in the natural climate. For your tree has a healthy growth cycle and naturally very important for it to have a winter dormancy period.
To give your plant during this period should you need a place outside the winter. The best way to do this is to remove the tree from the container and planted in your yard.
In most of the original trees from the tree root is the part most sensitive to cold. Most plants will begin to experience root damage at about 23 degrees Fahrenheit. To help avoid damage to the root you need to take the plant from the container and then bury in the yard or garden.
If you bury the plant so that the lower branches just barely affected by this will help keep the roots below the freezing line. You should bury in the shaded area. During the winter days the sun can cause the plant to lose water and frozen roots will not be able to fill it.
If you do not have a yard to plant a tree for the winter you can use a large container. A coffin-sized container of vegetables should be sufficient.
You bury the plants in a container like you would in the yard. And set a place outside where it will hit the elements of nature. If you use a container that is very important that you closely monitor soil moisture and does not allow to dry.
You can also winter your tree in the attic or garage as long as it is not heated and have windows. Be sure to place the plant where exposure to light from the window. You still need to water the plant almost every day if you choose this method. If you plant a conifer you will want to rotate it about once a week for the factory so that all sides will be exposed to sunlight.
You can prepare your trees for winter storage it immediately after the last leaves have fallen. At that time the plant is not active and ready to be moved.
In the spring, you can delete it from the page and place back in a container as soon as you see the buds first appear. If you allow your plants indoors for the winter they will bud early. When their buds earlier days will still be too short for proper growth and the leaves will have a long gap between them.
